I made an announcement on July 22 related to our tween assortment. I'm sharing the news here as well in case you did not see it on social media.

After a lot of thought and analysis, I’ve made the decision to eliminate the tween apparel category at Blue Star Bazaar.

Of course, this isn’t a personal decision—it’s a business decision.

I absolutely love seeing girls shop in the store, but the reality is that the space this category takes up and the dollars I invest in the inventory simply aren’t producing the sales and profit needed to justify keeping it.

The numbers tell the story. Currently, the tween apparel represents 22% of our inventory, generates 13% of sales, but contributes only 3% to total profit.

As a small business owner, I have to pay attention to what my customers are telling me through their purchasing decisions. Every day, customers vote with their dollars, and it’s become clear that other categories are more important to the people who shop at Blue Star Bazaar.

Currently, all tween apparel will is 30% off.

The good news is that this change will allow me to invest more heavily in the things my customers are loving most. I’ll continue investing in your favorite brands like Liverpool and Kut from the Kloth. I’ll be expanding some of our strongest categories, including women’s sweaters, tops, blouses, and jewelry.

I’m also excited about opportunities to grow the men’s department.

Plus—I have a couple of exciting new lines on order that I haven’t announced yet.

While it’s always hard to say goodbye to a category, this decision allows me and my team to focus on what Blue Star Bazaar does best and continue building a stronger store for the future.
